چکیده

The purpose of this paper was to evaluate a new set of biomechanical parameters for performance assessment in laboratory sprint cycling. Two groups of seven cyclists, one at elite level, the other at regional level, performed sprint tests in seated and standing positions against 0.8 N/kg resistive loads on the T1670 Basic ergo-trainer (Tacx, Netherlands). A classic racing bicycle was equipped with an SRM Training System (Schoberer, Germany). Two sets of biomechanical parameters were defined: one “classical” and one “new” set of parameters. The relation between crank torque and crank angle was carefully studied and a selection of characteristic criteria for assessing the cycling performance was proposed. In order to quantify the differences in the pedalling technique, new criteria were introduced, such as the time interval during which the instantaneous power exceeded 90 % of the maximal power output as a proportion of the pedal downstroke (RMPD90). The results show 1) that the cyclo cross cyclists can generated high level of power output during sprint test (close to 18W/kg) and 2) there is no significant difference between regional level and elite level concerning the set of biomechanical parameters classically employed. However, the new set of biomechanical parameters (RMPD90) revealed differences between the pedalling characteristics of the elite level and regional level groups. The results of the present study suggest that the analysis of the sprint test performed with classical set of biomechanical parameters can be completed using the RMPD90 as a supplementary fitness criterion.

The Measurement of Maximal (Anaerobic) Power Output on a Cycle Ergometer: A Critical Review

The interests and limits of the different methods and protocols of maximal (anaerobic) power (Pmax) assessment are reviewed: single all-out tests versus force-velocity tests, isokinetic ergometers versus friction-loaded ergometers, measure of Pmax during the acceleration phase or at peak velocity. The effects of training, athletic practice, diet and pharmacological substances upon the productio...

Comparison of selected biomechanical parameters and support foot injury during soccer instep kick by preferred and non-preferred lower limbs of the novice players

Support foot position is one of the important factors which can affect instep kick quality and ankle joint injury. The aims of this study were to examine the support foot parameters in maximal instep kicking with the preferred and the non-preferred leg and research on risk factors for ankle joint injury in amateur futsal players. In this semi experimental study, twelve young and novice futsal p...

Anaerobic Capacityestimated in A Single Supramaximal Test in Cycling: Validity and Reliability Analysis

The aim was to verify the validity (i.e., study A) and reliability (i.e., study B) of the alternative maximal accumulated oxygen deficit determined using onlya supramaximal effort (MAODALT)to estimate anaerobic capacity [i.e., estimated by the gold standard maximal accumulated oxygen deficit method (MAOD)] during cycling. In study A, the effects of supramaximal intensities on MAODALT and the co...

A maximal isokinetic pedalling exercise for EMG normalization in cycling.

An isometric maximal voluntary contraction (iMVC) is mostly used for the purpose of EMG normalization, a procedure described in the scientific literature in order to compare muscle activity among different muscles and subjects. However, the use of iMVC has certain limitations. The aims of the present study were therefore to propose a new method for the purpose of EMG amplitude normalization in ...

Evaluation of Electromyographic Frequency Domain Changes during a Three-Minute Maximal Effort Cycling Test.

To evaluate the time course of EMG frequency changes during a three-minute maximal effort cycling test (3MT) session and to examine which parameter between mean (MNF) and median (MDF) frequency is more suitable for evaluation of changes in neuromuscular function throughout a 3MT. Eighteen recreationally-active men volunteered to participate in this study. Maximum voluntary contraction (MVC) was...
